Local Animal Rescues

The Cat Rescue Network was established in 1999 in order to bring together, in an informal partnership, animal welfare organizations and committed individuals to address gaps in the delivery of animal welfare services for homeless cats.

Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find loving forever homes for dogs that have been abused, neglected and abandoned and left in high kill shelters to die. The dogs are all in caring, committed foster homes in order to assess each dog individually for their needs in order to find them permanent, responsible, forever adoptive homes.

Mandate:
  • To take care of unwanted, abandoned and abused ferrets;
  • To rehabilitate ferrets and give them the medical attention they require;
  • To find suitable homes for all ferrets who are healthy enough to be adopted into new families;
  • To provide a safe and healthy environment for the ferrets whose lives are no longer meant to be in a family environment. These ferrets will become long-term residents of the shelter, or will go to special homes.

Minpinerie is a non-profit rescue organization that rescues and fosters miniature pinchers that have been surrendered by their owners, willingly released by puppy mills or breeders, or abandoned in shelters. We also rescue, with priority, other small dogs that are in situations of peril or abuse, and will work quickly to assist women with dogs who must immediately leave their home setting because of domestic abuse, by fostering their pets until they have a chance to re-settle or re-homing them to a safe and loving home.

The Greyhound Supporters of the National Capital Region (GSNCR) was established in the summer of 2005. We are a “not-for-profit” group comprised of individuals interested in the health and welfare of the Retired Racing Greyhound.

Purpose:

  • Facilitate the adoption of retired racing greyhounds into loving homes and provide on-going support to the local greyhound community.
  • Raise public awareness about retired racing greyhounds; and
  • Raise funds for and/or participate in greyhound-related causes established to improve the health and physical well being of retired racing greyhounds globally.
